Durham County Carers Support Secures New Building to Enhance Services for Carers
Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) is delighted to announce the successful purchase of a new building, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to providing vital support for unpaid Carers across the region.
Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to two amazing people Geoffrey Stanley Walker from Consett and Sylvia Dobinson from Redworth who very kindly left legacies in their wills for making this possible. We will ensure that their generosity continues to support Carers for years to come. These incredible contributions have played a crucial role in making this building purchase possible, creating a lasting impact on the lives of Carers in the Community
The acquisition of this dedicated space will enable DCCS to expand its services, offering improved resources, and a welcoming environment for Carers seeking guidance
A Permanent Home: For years, DCCS has worked tirelessly to support the thousands of unpaid Carers in County Durham and Darlington, ensuring they receive the assistance and recognition they deserve. The purchase of this building secures a permanent home for our work, allowing us to:
- Offer more in-person support services, including one-to-one advice sessions and well-being programs.
- Host regular training and workshops to empower Carers with essential skills and knowledge.
- Create a community hub where Carers can connect, share experiences, and access vital resources.
- Strengthen our advocacy efforts, ensuring Carers’ voices are heard at local and national levels.

Community Involvement DCCS will be hosting a open event in the future where will be inviting Carers, supporters, and the wider community to visit the new facility and learn more about the services on offer. More details will be announced soon.

IN ADDITION: We also recently received the amazing news that Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) Volunteers have been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to support their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and, was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King. 2024 marks the second year of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
